For almost a decade the Austin Morris was the best selling car in the UK. It was launched in 1962 and there was a car to suit every pocket from the working class Austin and Morris models to the top end Wolseley and Vanden Plas.
There were even sporty Riley and MG editions available for those looking for something a bit more exciting. Available in two and four door editions and even three door estates, the Austin Morris catered for just about everyone.
With its comfortable interior and light controls, the 1300 model can happily cruise at 75mph. An added bonus is that four adults can travel in comfort and there is even room to carry a reasonable amount of luggage
With rust on the bodywork being a problem, 1100/1300s are very rare today. If you are lucky enough to find one, check it thoroughly for rust and listen out for noisy gearboxes and worn front wheel drive units.
If you have around £1,500 to spend you should be able to buy an Austin Morris in excellent condition. An extra £500 to £1,000 will bring a more upmarket and faster MG/Riley in decent condition, whilst for £3,000 you should be able to pick up a mint condition Vanden Plas. If you are looking for a car for restoration, for £1,000 you should be able to acquire a sound and usable 1100/1300.
