The Morris Minor is perhaps Britain's most well known and best loved car of all time. The original model was launched in 1948 but cars built from 1962 onwards, with an 1100 engine are probably the best. An wide range of models were available including two and four door saloons, a traveller estate, convertibles and commercial vans and pick-ups.
With its 1100 engine the Morris Minor can happily cruise at 70mph and it is fun to drive. Earlier models tend to feel a little slow.
Although its boot is small, the car is quite roomy inside. It is a cheap and easy car to run with spare parts still being readily available. There are numerous Morris Minor owners clubs around the UK with a large numbers of enthusiasts and collectors.
It you have around £3,000 to spend you should be able to buy a saloon in mint condition. Between £1,500 and £2,000 will get you a good usable example. If you are looking for a restoration project expect to spend in the region of £500, but beware of rust, which can be fatal in some models. A four door Morris Minor is usually less collectable than its better proportioned two door sister and this does make it a great buy but not necessarily such a good investment.
