Triumph Herald

The Triumph Herald has a distinctive Italian style about it that proved very popular when it was launched in the swinging 60s and which still looks great today.

Early models tend to feel slow, but the 12/50 of 1963 and the 13/60 of 1967 certainly hit the mark. Available in saloon, rare estate or convertible models, handling can be difficult. With its famous tight turning circle, the Herald is a great car in town. It has a large boot opening right down to sill height and a one piece bonnet which tips forward giving great access to the engine.

If the cars have been looked after, the engines are very reliable. Check out the cooling system as the engine can overheat if the radiator has been overlooked. As the Herald has a separate chassis, it is a good idea to ensure that this, as well as the body panels, is checked for rust.

£2,000 will buy you a saloon in excellent condition, however, for £1,000 you should be able to pick up a model in a usable condition. For a restoration project, which is still road legal but that requires a lot of work and attention, you can expect to pay around £500.
