What does the year 1963 bring to mind? The English might remember the 'Great Train Robbery' on the mail train from Glasgow to London or the release of 'She loves you' and 'I Want to Hold your Hand' while Americans might think of President Kennedy's assassination. But for Porsche fans, these are mere incidents as 1963 is the year 'the 911 happened'.
Five generations of 911s have completed the line up to its 40th Anniversary in 2003. The body styles adhere to four main types - Coupe, Targa, Cabriolet and Speedster.
The Porsche 911 is considered to be most value-stable among sport coupés and one of the most value-stable cars available. Since 1999, Porsche 911 resale value has increased from a previous high of 75.37% to 76.77%. A Porsche would rarely leave an investor at a loss.
Most car investors know that every make of a car has its own Members Club which can be counted upon to give advice on owning one of their own brands. For a classic auction investment you could even get an expert enthusiast to assess your 'piece' before you decide on a bid. Even among the 911s there are some that are more covetable than others. The R/RS series are without question one of the most respected, rare and valuable finds including the H and N models. Among them are the 935s (1976) and the 959 (1987) racing manias that although the latter was made in the mid-80s needs a mention here.
If your aim is to own a 911, lack of information will not constitute a problem. But finding the right one may - good luck.
