Ethical mortgages can work in several different ways and it very much depends on your requirements as an ethical borrower and the nature of the lender.
If for example you are aiming to refurbish an old and perhaps derelict property, then that will be an ideal lending proposition for building societies and other lenders whose policy it is to encourage the use of old properties instead consuming land with new builds.
You may be buying or building a property with low energy leakage and a strong reliance on green energy sources such as wind or solar power. Again such projects will suit the lending policies of lenders such as The Ecology Building Society.
Alternatively a borrower may be aiming to fund the purchase of a perfectly normal house without any particularly green or ethical characteristics but would prefer to borrow from a lender with clear ethical policies. Click here for information about ethical mortgage lenders.
