Posters

Rare or vintage movie posters are highly sought after by collectors and posters from classic films have been known to achieve unbelievably high prices at auction.

An original poster from the 1932 movie 'The Mummy' was sold recently for nearly half a million dollars. Other classics that collectors will be looking out for now are posters from films from the 50s featuring actors such as Sean Connery, Audrey Hepburn and Marilyn Monroe. Some collectors will concentrate on particular genres such as science fiction or horror and pay high prices to acquire original posters for their collections.

With the benefit of hindsight, it is easy to see how some films or actors have achieved such a cult following. So if you can predict which current films or actors will become the classics of the future and get hold of an original poster, you may have found an excellent investment for the future as well as having what many consider to be a work of art to enjoy.

As posters were originally made to be short-lived items, to advertise forthcoming events before being discarded, they are not particularly robust. As with all collectables always look for posters in near mint condition and try to maintain your investment as carefully as possible. The paper posters are made from is quite delicate and they should be handled with the utmost care. If you do not intend to frame your posters, they should be stored flat in a cool, dry place away from sunlight. Acid free plastic sleeves and backing boards are ideal for posters.
