Almost a third of Brits want to make an investment in property abroad or would like to move abroad, reveals research.

According to a survey by the Spanish branch of Halifax, Banco Halifax Hispania, America and Australia were the most popular places for Brits to make property investments .

Spain was the top European destination for potential property investments, with six per cent of those questioned saying they wanted to make investments there.

Approximately five per cent picked the Caribbean as their top spot for investment while New Zealand and Canada were joint fifth in the top five, with four per cent saying they would like to relocate to the two countries.

With the increasing interest in Spanish property, Banco Halifax Hispania has tried to develop and promote mortgage products most suitable to their British clientele.

"We certainly understand the type of mortgage products that British customers require, based on our vast experience in the UK and our knowledge of British attitudes and culture," commented Ian Smith.

Mortgage hunters looking for their new pad in the sun can even arrange their Spanish mortgage while still in the UK with the help of Banco Halifax Hispania's UK-based operations team.
