Bristol team praised after investments competition success
Thu, 01 Mar 2007
A Bristol-based team has outperformed 30,000 other teenagers from across the UK to scoop the monthly prize at a national investments competition.

JBL On Tour, a team of pupils at Mangotsfield School, won the £100 top prize in the Student Investor Challenge from financial services specialist ifs, after increasing the value of their assets from £105,511 to £117,019 during the course of January 2007.

The competition involves investing a make-believe £100,000 in the stock market to try and boost the value as much as possible over a three month period - and it is open to students across the UK.

And Gary Millner, director of corporate relations at the ifs school of finance , paid tribute to the team that outperformed all rivals in January.

"This team have done incredibly well to boost the value of their portfolio by 11 per cent in a single month - better than the thousands of other students participating," he said.

Mr Millner also pointed out that the students had managed to outperform the performance of the FTSE 100 share index during the period.

Launched in 1984, the FTSE 100 , which was originally a joint venture between the Financial Times and the London Stock Exchange , tracks the market capitalisation of 100 of the largest companies listed on the exchange.
