Isa uptake increases

Thu, 24 Apr 2008

The number of people taking out an individual savings account (Isa) at the end of the last tax year was considerably more than in the same period in 2007, new figures show.

According to figures released by the Share Centre, 30 per cent more people took out an Isa in April 2008 than the previous year.

Ian Benning, product development manager at the Share Centre, said: "Our Isa take-up figures continue to improve each year and it is encouraging to see that many investors are riding out the markets with a long term view."

He added that by offering a wider selection of Isas, his company had been able to attract people who were looking for a "cost effective way" to benefit from a wide selection of investments .

Earlier this week, Abbey announced that it is still offering an Isa at an interest rate of ten per cent to anyone who places £1,500 into any of its other investment products .
