Taiwan offers investment opportunities

Wed, 30 Apr 2008

Political change in Taiwan could open up a range of attractive investment opportunities, it has been claimed.

Henry Chan, head of Asian equities at Barings Asset Management, explains that the country offers some particularly interesting investment opportunities.

"Taiwan's recent presidential changes and the resulting improved relations with China will open up some very interesting opportunities for investors in the region, Mr Chan said.

He added: "Rising corporate profitability and strong balance sheets signify that fundamentals in the region are very positive."

The fact that the current global downturn has not been driven by Asia means that there is a window of opportunity to make investments in "the world's fastest growing region", he concluded.

Yesterday, Santander Asset Management UK claimed that emerging markets still offer many good investment opportunities.

It stated that while the credit crunch and inflation will have some impact on the region, it will still be a lot better off than US and European markets.
