Bonds still suitable for investment, expert claims.

Bonds remain "a suitable long-term investment vehicle" for the majority of people, one expert has claimed.

John Lawson, head of pensions policy for Standard Life, explained that while the latest budget failed to make the investments more attractive, they still have advantages.

He said: "Only in a minority of cases should advisers be thinking about moving their clients out of bonds into other types of investment such as mutual funds ."

Mr Lawson added that anyone who was considering switching investments will face a "very complex" decision in working out if they will be better off by doing so.

Bonds continue to be a good investment choice when compared to other types of vehicles, he concluded.

In related news Lee Coates of Ethical Investors claimed that such investments are becoming increasingly popular with consumers.

He stated that this is a natural progression as people become more aware of social and environmental issues relating to the way in which their money is handled.
