People continuing to make investments

Tue, 18 Mar 2008

Despite recent falls in stock markets, many people still see the chance to make profitable investments, it has been claimed.

According to figures released by Barclays Stockbrokers, on Monday, 59 per cent of orders carried out by the firm were buys, while 41 per cent were from those looking to sell their investors .

This optimism continued into Tuesday with, as of 09:00 GMT, 69 per cent of transactions relating to people making further investments.

Henk Potts, equity strategist for Barclays Stockbrokers said: "The doom and gloom headlines and the disheartening numbers on screen may have some traders looking for a safe haven.

"However many others should see this as real opportunity to take advantage of short term volatility in order to generate long term gain."

Mr Potts added that the best investments are made when stocks are weak and cheap, rather than strong and expensive.

Stocks in Europe have today rebounded after large losses on Monday.
