Ethical investments aim to encourage corporate responsibility

Tue, 13 May 2008

Those looking for ethical investments want different things to more traditional investors, it has been claimed.

Penny Shepherd, chief executive of the UK Social Investment Forum (UKSIF), explained that many people who use their money in such a way are looking to influence the companies they invest in.

She said: "Consumers either want to encourage companies to behave more responsibly; and/or they want to provide finance for the new solutions we need for a more sustainable lifestyle."

However, people are still looking to make a good return on their investments, she added.

For this reason, people should consult a financial adviser before making any ethical investments to make sure that there money is working as hard as it possibly can, she concluded.

Next week, May 18th to 24th, is the first National Ethical Investment Week. Organised by firms including Henderson Global Investors, Norwich Union and Friends Provident, the campaign aims to encourage people to consider such investment options.
