Eurozone still offers good investments, expert claims

Current market conditions make European stocks an attractive investment, one expert has claimed.

According to Peter Jarvis, manager of the Foreign and Colonial Eurotrust, the strong euro might threaten earnings, but the region is still a sound long-term investment.

He said: "This view has been backed by recent data indicating that fundamentals are holding up against the backdrop of the challenges of the strong euro and lack of monetary easing."

Investments in European markets are also somewhat shielded by the fact that consumers are less likely to have large mortgage debts, making them less stretched than people in the UK and US.

Companies that have robust earnings and good potential for the future will make the best investments, he added.

Yesterday, research by Halifax Financial Services revealed that stock prices across the EU have increased by an average of 118 per cent since 2003.

The market with the single biggest growth was Bulgaria which experienced an increase of 352 per cent.
