Stamp collecting has an enormous following in the UK and all over the world.
Enthusiasts look not only at the postage stamps themselves but also at the watermarks, paper, method of printing, type of ink, gum and perforation. They may also be interested in any post marks as well as postal history and political or geographical changes that affect the areas where different stamps originate.
Stamp collecting is a hugely varied and complicated subject – far more so than many people realise. If you are interested in stamps but are also looking to create an investment for the future, it is always a good idea to focus your collection on a narrow area, preferably in your own country. You could decide to specialise in particular types of stamps such as commemoratives, first day covers, stamped envelopes etc, or you might want to look at a particular decade or period in history.
New issues from the post office may take as much as 30 years to appreciate beyond face value. However, occasionally, there may be a limited run or a printing irregularity or an error resulting in a recall. This could mean that any of the new issue in circulation increase massively in value within the first couple of years. It is not always easy to spot these.
There are no guarantees that investing in stamps will make you a fortune in a short space of time but over the years, it could be an enjoyable and interesting alternative to traditional stock market investments. If you would like more information, please complete a Quick Enquiry Form.
