Slovenia is situated in central Europe and borders Hungary, Austria, Italy and Croatia and has its own stretch of Adriatic coastline.

With its fairy tale castles, stunning Alpine ranges and crystal clear rivers, Slovenia is a dream location. The arrival of budget airlines has meant that Slovenia has become even more accessible and tourism has been the fastest growing industry in the last five years.

This, together with new legislation, has opened up the property market to foreign investors.

Slovenia is a peaceful and unspoilt paradise for those looking for outdoor pursuits. Skiing, hiking, climbing, water sports, golf and cycling are all available and this, together with its charming ancient walled towns, makes Slovenia an ideal destination.

Since the country joined the EU, purchasing property there has become much more straightforward. Property is far cheaper than in the UK although taking out a mortgage on a home in Slovenia may be more difficult, though not impossible to organise compared with many other countries.

Once you have found your dream home and have had an offer accepted, an application would have to be made for an EMSO number (this is issued to all Slovene citizens at birth).

As the tourism industry continues to rapidly expand in this part of the world, a property investment in Slovenia could offer excellent long-term potential.
