Types of Wine for Investment - Chardonnay

While the majority of Chardonnay is intended for drinking while young, there are a few special ones with good ageing potential that are suitable for investment.

French winemakers

French winemakers use this grape to make great White Burgundy wines. Chardonnay is one of the few varieties of grape that does not need to be blended as it is an aromatic grape, balanced enough in flavour to stand on its own.

Chardonnay

Chardonnay is a dry wine that benefits from being aged in oak. A good oak aged Chardonnay will take on an earthy, caramel and vanilla flavour. Some winemakers also give their Chardonnay a rich buttery flavour by using a fermentation process however these wines should be drunk early as they will reach maturity more quickly.

Chardonnay continues to be very popular worldwide and whilst its style may vary from producer to producer and from harvest to harvest, Chardonnay remains a classic wine. As well as being produced in France, Chardonnay production is growing in popularity in North America and is winning recognition throughout the world.
