Selling your wine investments

Should you decide to sell your wine there are effectively two methods of evaluating a wines worth ie how much you are prepared to sell for or how much someone else is willing to buy for. Much will depend upon how the wine has been stored, whether you have its "provenance" or history, the condition of the bottle, label, the level of the wine, how many bottles you have and of course whether your particular wine is in demand.

Your wine merchant will generally use auction prices as a guide, with valuations usually being 10% - 15% higher than current auction prices. "Decanter" and "Wine" magazines both publish up to date information on a monthly basis. Another good source of price information is from www.wine-searcher.com, an Internet based medium used by the wine trade to advertise stock.

Once you have agreed a sale price, moneys will be collected by your merchant and transferred directly to you. Only once the money has been received and cashed by you will the wines be released to the purchaser.
